The White House answered whether a split in the anti-Putin coalition is possible against the background of the energy crisis in Europe

Due to the sanctions introduced against the Russian Federation, most of the countries of the European Union are forced to search for new suppliers and alternative sources of energy at an accelerated pace.

There are about two months left until the start of the heating season, however, the topic of stability of the anti-Putin coalition against the background of rapid growth in gas prices in Europe is already being discussed quite actively in the mass media. Will the difficulties of the 2022-2023 season affect European allies and their support for Ukraine, White House Press Secretary Karin Jean-Pierre commented.

Since it was clear that Russia would use fuel as a means of exerting pressure on the European Union, the United States began to prepare its partners for a possible threat as early as March of this year. First of all, it concerned assistance in increasing the volume of alternative energy sources.

In the first month of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, the US reached an agreement with the EU on the supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG). Thanks to this, LNG exports to the European continent increased by 84% compared to 2021, and the share of American exports almost tripled. According to Karin Jean-Pierre, global exports of liquefied natural gas to Europe have increased by 20 billion cubic meters since March compared to last year.

The United States is not going to stop there and is ready to continue helping its partners accumulate fuel in gas storage facilities. At the same time, work on developing alternative sources of clean energy and increasing energy efficiency does not stop. So, despite all the efforts of the head of the Kremlin, the country is ready to implement the necessary measures to reduce dependence on Russian energy carriers.

“The West is united. You see NATO stronger than ever. And that's why we believe that this partnership will continue. We will also make sure that our partners in Ukraine have what they need to fight for their freedom and sovereignty,” said the press secretary of the White House.
