Sports ministers of 36 countries called on the IOC to remove Russians and Belarusians from positions in sports federations

The official letter was addressed to IOC President Thomas Bach.

Sports ministers of 36 countries signed an official appeal to the president International Olympic Committee Thomas Bach on the need to remove all representatives of Russia and Belarus from key positions in international sports federations and organizing committees of sports competitions.

The letter was signed by Gutzeit himself, as well as the sports ministers of 25 member states of the European Union, Australia, Canada, Iceland, Japan, South Korea, Liechtenstein, New Zealand, Norway, Great Britain and the USA.

“In the address, I once again emphasized our unchanged position: athletes from the Russian Federation and Belarus do not have the right to participate in sports competitions in any status, including neutral, until the end of Russian aggression against Ukraine,” Gutzeit added.

We remind you that the IOC recommended to all sports federations to remove athletes from the Russian Federation and Belarus after the start of a full-scale military invasion of Ukraine. Also, official international competitions are not held on the territory of the aggressor country and its partner.
