Term of validity of the mandate of the Special Monitoring Mission OSCE ended on March 31, 2022. Due to the lack of consensus on the continuation of the work, the OSCE will take immediate steps to close the Special Monitoring Mission in Ukraine. This is stated in the statement of the organization.
“This is not an easy decision. We explored all possible options through political dialogue with the participating states in order to achieve the extension of the mandate of the Special Monitoring Mission, but the position of the Russian Federation left us with no other choice but to take steps to close the Mission,” said OSCE Chairman-in-Office Zbigniew Rau.
At the same time, he assured that the Polish presidency will continue interaction with the participating states to study alternatives for the future role of the OSCE in Ukraine.
