and Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal on July 1 signed a joint statement on the unity of the branches of the Ukrainian government on the way to full membership of our country in the European Union. Zelenskyy stated this while speaking in the Verkhovna Rada, during which the EU flag was also installed in the session hall. The President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen also spoke via video link during the meeting.

“Today, together with the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and the Prime Minister, we are signing a Joint Statement which is a signal of the unity of all branches of government and evidence of our determination to achieve the strategic goal of Ukraine, namely full membership in the European Union. And signing this statement should mean the same as signing the application for entry on the fifth day of the war,” Zelenskyi said.

He added that Ukraine took 115 days to apply for EU membership. The President emphasized that our path to full membership in the European Union should not take decades or years.

“It is ideal to do our part of the job. To enable our friends in the European Union to make another historic decision for us just as quickly and consolidated,” the president added.

In turn, Ursula von der Leyen noted during her speech in the Ukrainian parliament that our country has a clear European perspective, but there is still a lot of time and hard work ahead on the way to membership.
