Can Russia refuse to participate in the trial?
On July 1, Ukraine submitted to the UN International Court of The Hague memorandum on recognizing Russia as guilty of the genocide of Ukrainians. The memorandum was supported by 40 countries. This was reported by the agent of Ukraine at the UN International Court of Justice, the ambassador on special assignment of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Anton Korynevich.
“We submitted a memorandum, we did it on July 1. This means that the The federation has three months to file, if it has any, its objections to the court's jurisdiction in this case. Then the court can proceed to consider the merits of the case,” he said on the air of the telethon.
According to the executive director of the Ukrainian Helsinki Union for Human Rights Oleksandr Pavlychenko, Russia will not be able to get the terms of consideration of the case in this court to be removed.

” “The Russian Federation can file an objection only on the merits of the case and jurisdiction. If it objects to the case being considered by the Hague Court, it can be offered to transfer the case with clear explanations and evidence as to why this is unacceptable for the Russian Federation,” Pavlychenko explained, “Fakty” reports.
He also noted that the Russian Federation's refusal to participate in the process would mean its removal as a member and subject of the UN.
“If it refuses to implement decisions binding on all members of the organization, it puts itself outside the boundaries of this organization. This is an important decision and a precedent that can simply throw the Russian Federation out of all diplomatic platforms, including the UN,” the executive director emphasized.
It should be noted that on April 14, the Verkhovna Rada recognized Russia's actions in Ukraine as genocide< /strong> of the Ukrainian people and called on the international community to do the same.
