Venediktova and Bakanov have not yet been released — Office of the President

Zelensky has not yet decided whether he will put these issues to a vote of the Council.

Irina Venediktova and Ivan Bakanov were not dismissed from their positions the Prosecutor General and the head of the Security Service of Ukraine, respectively, and were only suspended for official inspections, after which President Zelenskyi will decide whether to submit the relevant submissions to the parliament, said Deputy Head of the Office of the President Andriy Smirnov on the air of the informational telethon.

“There is no talk of dismissing these two officials yet. It is about the fact that the Prosecutor General has been removed from his post, and the head of the Security Service of Ukraine has been temporarily removed from the duties assigned to him. This is due to the fact that the president and all of us have been waiting long enough for more concrete and, perhaps, radical results from the heads of these bodies to purge collaborators and state traitors,” he was quoted as saying by Ukrinfo.

The primary reason, he said, was that in the sixth month of the war, collaborators continue to be identified in these law enforcement agencies almost every week, so “to prevent the potential influence of these two officials on the criminal proceedings that are being investigated against SBU employees who are suspected of cooperation with the aggressor country, and the same applies to the prosecutor's office, the president made appropriate decisions on removal from office and removal.”

Smirnov explained the difference in wording in the decrees of the head of state by the fact that the prosecutor general was “removed” in accordance with the law the president to remove from the position an official who is appointed and dismissed by him.

At the same time, he reminded that the “removal” of Bakanov from the performance of duties is prescribed in accordance with the Disciplinary Statute of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, since the head of the SBU is a military man.

“This is the key difference between these two bylaws on removal from office and removal from the performance of official duties”, – noted the deputy head of the OP.

He added that official checks and investigations will be conducted in relation to both Bakanov and Venediktova, and only after them the president will make a decision on the need to submit to the parliament a motion to grant consent to the dismissal of the prosecutor general and the head of the SBU.
