He also called on Serbia and the partially recognized Kosovo to resolve the conflict between them.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz stressed that the Western Balkans is part of Europe and all countries in the region must join the European Union. He made the remarks during a press conference with Kosovo's Prime Minister Albin Kurti in Berlin, DW reports.
The Western Balkans include Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, northern Macedonia, Serbia and Montenegro. As well as the partially recognized Kosovo, which is part of Serbia (a country like the UN does not recognize the independence of the republic).
Scholz also noted the need for a gradual settlement of the conflict between Serbia and Kosovo that would contribute to stability and security in Europe. He called on Prime Minister Kurti for a constructive dialogue.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that self-proclaimed terrorist organizations, the so-called “DPR” and “LPR”, had declared their “independence” using precedent created in Kosovo . And Russia attacked Ukraine “in full compliance with the UN Charter.”
