Russia tried to block Zelensky's speech at the UN Security Council meeting

Russia tried to block the speech of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky at the UN Security Council meeting dedicated to Ukraine, which has already started in New York.

In particular, the representative of the Russian Federation spoke against giving the President of Ukraine the right to speak via video link, motivating it by the fact that participation via video link is not provided for by the statute.

“We question not the participation of the President of Ukraine, but his speech via video link,” he said.

Instead, the UN Security Council decided to hold a vote on this issue and with 13 votes “in favor” decided to invite the president of Ukraine. The representative of the Russian Federation voted against, the representative of China abstained.

“Well, the Russians are infamous for being the world champions in foot shooting; they masochistically asked to put to a vote Ukraine's request to allow Volodymyr Zelensky to address the Security Council. No one supported the Russian negative vote. Strong 13 votes in support of Ukraine,” commented the permanent representative of Ukraine at the UN, Serhiy Kyslytsia.
