Due to Russia's fault, ships with 2 million tons of Ukrainian grain are sitting at sea right now.
Russia decided to block the agreement on export of Ukrainian grain not today, when it officially announced it, but in September, when it actually blocked the movement of vessels through the grain corridor, emphasized the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky in his evening address.
From September to today in the grain corridor 176 vessels have already accumulated that cannot follow their route. Some grain carriers have been waiting for more than three weeks.
“Just today, more than 2 million tons of food are in the sea. This is a completely deliberate blockade of Russia. This is an absolutely transparent intention of Russia to return the threat of large-scale famine to Africa, to Asia,” the president noted.
In addition, at least twice during the grain initiative, Russia struck the Ukrainian Navy, which guarantees security grain corridor.
Due to the provocation of the Russian Federation, access to food has worsened for more than seven million people in the world. Residents of Algeria, Egypt, Yemen, Bangladesh, Vietnam and other countries may face difficulties.
Zelenskyy called on the world to react harshly, in particular, at the UN and G20 level, and emphasized: a country that deliberately provokes hunger on several continents has no place in the “twenty”.
“Russia is doing everything to ensure that millions of Africans, millions of residents of the Middle East and South Asia find themselves in conditions of artificial hunger or at least a severe price crisis. But why can a handful of people somewhere in the Kremlin decide whether people in Egypt or Bangladesh will have food on their tables? What it is? The world has the power to protect people from this,” he added.
At the same time Ukraine has been and can continue to be one of the guarantors of global food security.
