Putin's godfather was not granted bail, but was allowed to appeal.
Viktor Medvedchuk, who thanks to successful SBU special operations were detained after escaping from house arrest, a measure of restraint in the form of detention was chosen. The relevant decision was made by the investigating judge of the Lychakiv District Court of Lviv.
The decision was made in absentia on March 18, when it was established that Medvedchuk had violated his obligations and fled his home in an unknown direction. On April 16, the judge upheld the detention without specifying the amount of bail.
“At the request of the parties to the criminal proceedings, the petition was made by the investigating judge in accordance with the provisions of Art. 336 of the CPC of Ukraine by videoconference during a broadcast from another room. The suspect and the defense counsel have the right to file an appeal against the said court decision, ”the ruling reads.

It will be recalled that on April 12, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced the detention of SBU godfather Vladimir Putin and OPZH MP Viktor Medvedchuk. Later in the address, the president suggested that Russia exchange him for Ukrainian citizens in captivity. Zelensky also stated the need to try Medvedchuk “according to the rules of war.”
The Ministry of Internal Affairs considers it optimal to exchange policies for information on the financing of the “fifth column”. However, they are not sure whether Medvedchuk himself will want this exchange. But after such a proposal, Moscow turned to threats to the Ukrainian authorities , calling the story of Putin's godfather a “British scheme.”
