Deputies of parties banned for pro-Russian activities should automatically lose their seats – Kornienko

Despite the fact that the pro-Russian OPZZh party has been banned in Ukraine, its deputies continue to work in the Verkhovna Rada.

Prohibition of a political party, in particular for pro-Russian activities , should lead to the loss of seats of all deputies from this party, stated First Deputy Speaker of Parliament Oleksandr Kornienko on the air of the national marathon.

” If we talk about the fact that colleagues lose their mandate, then there is a way out: it is necessary to amend the Constitution. We have five or seven grounds for losing our mandate, and we just need to add the grounds for “cooperation with the occupiers or pro-Russian activities.” There are also traditional mechanisms – court verdicts. But in fact it is necessary to make changes that if the party is banned for pro-Russian activities, then the deputies from it should automatically lose their seats “, – said Kornienko.

However, we must be careful: world democracy says that elected positions can not be restrict, people have the right to choose anyone. On the other hand, in Ukraine it is also a question of national security.

Kornienko stressed that currently amendments to the Constitution of Ukraine are impossible given to martial law.

May 12 in the Verkhovna Rada officially eliminated the faction “Opposition Platform – For Life” , co-chaired by Viktor Medvedchuk and Yuriy Boyko.
