The United States is considering recognizing Russia as a sponsor of terrorism – the Wall Street Journal

According to Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, the legal aspects of this procedure are currently being considered.

The administration of US President Joe Biden is seriously considering the recognition of the Russian Federation as a sponsor of terrorism. This was reported by the Wall Street Journal with reference to the speech of US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken in the Senate on Wednesday, April 27.

At a hearing on budget issues, Senator Lindsey Graham called on Blinken to name Russia a sponsor of terrorism, and asked why this had not yet been done. Blinken replied that he had no doubts about Russia's status as a country that promotes terrorism, but that its official recognition requires compliance with the law.

“I have no doubt that the Russians are terrorizing the Ukrainian people. The question is – and again, lawyers are paying attention to this – to make sure that we really meet the legal requirements of this recognition, “- said the Secretary of State. In order for a state to be recognized as a sponsor of terrorism, there must be clear evidence that its government has repeatedly assisted in the commission of acts of international terrorism. Cuba, North Korea, Iran and Syria are currently recognized as such countries.
