The United Kingdom and Norway have signed a declaration on strengthening cooperation

Against the background of threats from Russia, Britain is stepping up cooperation with the Nordic countries.

Leaders of the British governments and Norway signed a new joint declaration on strengthening cooperation between the two countries, reports The Guardian .

The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Boris Johnson met with his Norwegian counterpart Jonas Gar Store in London today. Both leaders “emphasized their full support for any sovereign choice made by the northern partners to enhance their security.” This refers to defense alliances, including NATO.

The new declaration was signed a few days after Johnson visited Sweden and Finland to discuss cooperation with them in the event of a threat from Russia.

In addition, Johnson and Støre discussed energy and climate policy, the need to support Ukraine and cooperation in the energy sector.

Before that, on May 11, United Kingdom signed security guarantee agreement with Sweden. Johnson traveled to Sweden and Finland amid reports that they may apply to join NATO early next week. On May 12, the President and Prime Minister of Finland announced their decision to join NATO as soon as possible.
