The Serbian Foreign Ministry claims that 4 more countries have withdrawn notes recognizing Kosovo

Serbia's confrontation with self-proclaimed Kosovo has resumed, and the “Washington agreement” has virtually ceased to operate.

Against the background of Kosovo's statement of intent to apply for membership in the Council of Europe, in Serbia convened the National Security Council. Following the meeting, Foreign Minister Nikola Selakovic called on European countries not to initiate the adoption procedure in June and said that four countries had already withdrawn notes on recognizing Kosovo's independence. The Minister's speech was published by RTS.

The National Security Council of Serbia was convened urgently due to the intention of the self-proclaimed Republic of Kosovo to apply to the Council of Europe. By doing so, the leaders of Pristina violate the terms of the “Washington Agreement” concluded in 2020 between the parties. According to her, Serbia has not sought to withdraw recognition of Kosovo's independence for a year, and they have not applied for membership in international organizations. The agreements have expired, but Serbia, with US support, still considers the agreement valid.

In this regard, the Foreign Minister said that “Serbia wants to give a chance to Council of Europe member states initiate the procedure for Kosovo's accession to the organization in June. ” He also stressed that four countries have already withdrawn notes recognizing the independence of Kosovo and Metohija.

The Minister is determined and confident in the further struggle for the territorial integrity of Serbia. According to him, they are determined, despite significant pressure from other countries.

Today, 80 countries around the world do not recognize the independence of Kosovo, including Ukraine and Russia. Nevertheless, the “precedent of Kosovo” Putin used to justify the “right of the pseudo-republics of Donbass to independence” .
