The position of Russia at the Conference on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons was criticized by representatives of the United States and the United Nations

The aggressor country disrupted the signing of the final document on the revision of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons.

Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons < /strong> remains strong despite the fact that the Russian Federation single-handedly decided to block consensus on the final document at the Tenth Review Conference. This statement was made by the US State Department.

“The Russian Federation decided to block the consensus on the final document after the end of the Tenth UN Conference on Reviewing the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons. Russia did this in order to block wording regarding the serious radiation hazard at the Zaporizhzhia NPP in Ukraine,” the document says.

The statement emphasizes that the rest of the states participating in the UN conference, which lasted for several weeks, supported the final document.

The United States and other countries continue to call on Russia to stop military activities near the nuclear power plant and return control of the plant to Ukraine.

UN Secretary General António Guterres also expressed his disappointment with the lack of consensus on the final document of the Review Conference of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons due to Russia's position.

He believes that the tense international situation and the increased risk of accidental or miscalculated use of nuclear weapons require urgent and decisive action.

Guterres also called on states to use all opportunities for dialogue, diplomacy and negotiations to ease tensions, reduce nuclear risks and eliminating the nuclear threat once and for all.

As reported, Russia has blocked the approval of the final document of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), which, in particular, criticized the seizure by the Russian troops of the largest in Europe's nuclear power plant — the Ukrainian ZNPP.

Thus, the UN conference on the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons ended without a final communique.
