Due to the ambiguity of the situation at the front, Russia is postponing the holding of the so-called “referendums” in the temporarily occupied territories for an indefinite period.
Sudden Ukrainian counterattack in Kharkiv Oblast /strong>caught not only the occupying forces by surprise, but also Russian propaganda. For several days before the start of active operations in the northeast of Ukraine, the mass media and the main propagandists of the “Russian measure” ridiculed and devalued the actions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the southern direction. So when the Russian forces stationed in the Kharkiv region began to flee en masse, silence fell among the propagandists. And although after some time the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation called the deoccupation of Balaklia and Izyuma a “regrouping” of troops, the Kremlin probably understands the significance of the Ukrainian counteroffensive very well, reports Die Welt.
“The Kremlin seems to be able to appreciate the real significance of the Ukrainian counteroffensive quite well without admitting it publicly. Currently, it seems that Russia wants to postpone the so-called referendums on the annexation of the occupied territories to Ukraine,” the article says.

After capturing a large part of the Kharkiv, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Luhansk and Kherson regions of Ukraine, the occupation administrations began to actively prepare for so-called “referendums” with the aim of joining Russia. However, the dates of the “expression of the will” of the people are either constantly postponed or not specifically named at all.
Recently discussed as a possible date, Russia's “single election day” on which local and regional elections were held.

Currently, due to the successful counteroffensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the “referendums” are being postponed again. At most, all pro-Kremlin agitators and political technologists have left Kharkiv and Zaporizhia regions, but they are still in Kherson region.
In addition, General Secretary of “United Russia” Andriy Turchak proposed holding a vote on November 4 on the “Day of National Unity”. But recent events cast doubt on this possibility. With reference to an anonymous source, online mass media “Meduza” claims that there is no clarity in the Kremlin when it will be possible to discuss new terms, it depends solely on the development of the Ukrainian counteroffensive.
