The frozen assets of the Russians must be transferred to the reconstruction of Ukraine – Charles Michel

The President of the European Council believes that this is a matter of justice.

European Council President Charles Michel believes that confiscated assets of Russian citizens who have been placed on EU sanctions lists should be given to Ukraine to compensate for the damage caused by the war against Russia.

“Personally, I am absolutely convinced that it is extremely important not only to freeze assets, but also to enable their confiscation, to make them available for the country's reconstruction. This is a matter of justice, “Michel said in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine.

The politician also said that despite the need and obviousness of such a step by EU, to legally implement this procedure will be quite difficult due to the large number of legal systems within the Union. He stressed that the necessary court decisions will take a long time, but the legal service of the European Council is already working on this issue.
