Some governments believe that further discussions on the embargo will delay the introduction of the sixth package of sanctions against Russia.
Some European Union countries are ready to postpone the oil embargo on Russia indefinitely due to the principled position of Hungary, which refuses to support sanctions against the aggressor state. The EU believes that this will speed up the introduction of the sixth sanctions package, at least to a limited extent.
According to Bloomberg, representatives of most EU countries are still ready to approve the package in full by Monday. That is when the meeting of foreign ministers will take place in Brussels. However, there are also proponents of the idea that the oil embargo should be abandoned for the time being in order not to slow down the approval of other restrictive measures against Russia. Proponents of the embargo believe that if the ban on Russian oil is not included in the sixth package of sanctions, it will look like a sign of weakness for the world community.
For his part, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban insists the oil embargo should be discussed at a summit of EU leaders in late May. The Hungarian government has not agreed to a ban on Russian fuel , even with the exception of its country, Slovakia and the Czech Republic, which are almost one hundred percent dependent on exports from Russia.
