The Deputy Prime Minister hopes that the West has learned from the political mistakes of 2008.
The decision on Ukraine's status as an EU candidate in June this year with regard to Ukraine should not be another political mistake, as it was in 2008 with the provision of the MAP to NATO. At the time, the reluctance to irritate Russia led to the rise of an authoritarian regime that unleashed three wars and is now urging NATO to quickly decide on the accession of Sweden and Finland, Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Olga Stefanishina told ZN.UA.
“I hope that conclusions have been drawn from political mistakes, and in June the leaders will not use micro-arguments,” she said. The decision in June to grant Ukraine candidate status is the best investment in the stability of our country in particular and the region as a whole, Stefanishina is convinced.
“After our victory, the country will be rebuilt. And it is in the interest of all European states to allocate funds to a country that will become part of the EU. That these were funds for reconstruction, not donations for a third country, “she said.
