The meeting will be the second for the Russian and Turkish leaders within the last month.
On Friday, August 5, a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan will take place in Sochi. It is assumed that politicians will discuss the recent “grain agreement”and the participation of the Russian Federation in Ankara's offensive against the Syrian Kurds. “Voice of America” writes about this.
In its material, the publication emphasizes the opinion of political experts who believe that the meeting with Putin is for Erdogan, in a certain sense , a tool of influence on Turkey's Western allies. In this way, he is trying to send a signal to the US and other countries that he is able to negotiate effectively with anyone, even with Putin.
“This will help soften his image as a troublemaker at the international and regional levels. He is still trying to demonstrate that he can make deals with Putin, showing the United States and the Biden administration that Putin is his close ally and friend,” Turkish expert Ilhan Uzgel believes.

In addition, the analyst notes that the trip to Sochi will help Erdogan to agree with Putin on support in the event of Turkey's attack on the Syrian Kurds.
“They have already met in Tehran for two weeks ago. It seems that Erdogan was then unable to get Putin's permission for a Turkish invasion of northern Syria. Ankara needs cooperation with Moscow to carry out a military operation given that Russia controls the airspace of Syria,” Uzgel added.
