“Putin got the opposite of what he wanted, namely more, not less, NATO” – Scholz

The German Chancellor reaffirmed his intention to continue to provide strong support to Ukraine, both financially and militarily.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has said that a full-scale Russian war against Ukraine has united Europe and NATO. Now they are working together, and this is something that Vladimir Putin never expected, something that has become one of the biggest miscalculations of the Russian president. He said this at a press conference with French President Emmanuel Macron, Ukrinform reports.

“Putin got the opposite of what he wanted, namely, more, not less than NATO,” Scholz said.

He also agreed that Ukraine “belongs to the European family” and added: “We are working to accompany it on the road to a common Europe.”

According to him, the process of Ukraine's accession to the European Union has already begun: the EU is working on documents and the European Commission will soon announce its conclusion. However, Scholz did not specify whether he sees Ukraine in the European Union in the near future.

The head of the German government reiterated that his country will continue to support Ukraine in the fight against the Russian invasion. In particular, we are talking about financial assistance and weapons.

“Germany will continue to provide very large financial support to Ukraine… We will continue, like many others, to make a very large contribution to Ukraine's armaments so that it can defend itself as long as possible.” – noted Scholz.

Earlier, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that Russian President Vladimir Putin leaves Germany and his partners with no choice but to supply Ukraine with weapons to fight the Russian invasion.
