Putin agrees to UN and Red Cross involvement in evacuation of Azovstal civilians

The Kremlin master has given his “agreement in principle”.

During the joint meeting of Russian President Vladimir Putin and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, the Kremlin's host, has agreed to the United Nations and the Red Cross in evacuating civilians from Azovstal in Mariupol, surrounded by Russian troops. This was stated in a statement on the UN website.

“During the discussion of humanitarian aid and evacuation of civilians from the conflict zones, namely the situation in Mariupol, Putin” agreed in principle “to involve the UN and the International Committee of the Red Cross before the evacuation of civilians from the Azovstal plant in Mariupol, the UN reports.

Further discussions will be held with the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs and the Russian Ministry of Defense.

Also during the conversation. Putin stated that Russia will not be able to sign security guarantees for Ukraine without first resolving the territorial issue of Crimea, Sevastopol and the so-called “DPR” and “LPR”.

It will be recalled that in Mariupol Russian occupiers continue to storm the Azovstal metallurgical plant, which houses civilians and Ukrainian defenders.
