Peskov: “No payment – no gas”

A spokesman for the Russian president commented on the EU's refusal to pay for Russian gas in rubles.

Russia is not going to do “charity” and send gas to Western Europe for free. This was stated in an interview with PBS News Hour by the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov.

“I do not know what will happen when they reject this opportunity (payment in rubles – Ed.). Therefore, as soon as we make a final decision, we will see what can be done. But, of course, we will not do charity and send for free gas to Western Europe, “he said.

Asked if Russia was going to cut off gas supplies if countries refused to pay for it in rubles, despite Putin's insistence, Peskov said: “No payment – no gas.”

Earlier, the G7 countries said they would not pay Russia for gas in rubles . According to them, this is a unilateral and clear violation of existing contracts.
