Long blackouts on December 10: Energoatom named the reason and told what they did

The company said that there was a malfunction in one of the NPP units.

On Saturday, December 10, one of the atomic power units VVER-1000 had to be disconnected from the power grid in order to eliminate the remark of the backup protection current transformer. This is stated in the message of NAEC “Energoatom”.

“The observations were eliminated, and today at 02:43 the power unit was reconnected to the power grid,” the company noted.

Renewal repairs are also coming to an end another VVER-1000 power unit, which was damaged as a result of shelling of the energy infrastructure on November 23. It is planned to be connected to the network in the coming days.

Currently, eight out of nine nuclear power units located in the free territory of Ukraine are operating.

“To meet the needs of the population and the economy of the country, all other power units of the domestic nuclear power plants, with the exception of the temporarily seized Zaporizhzhia plant, are operating at maximum capacity,” the message reads.

Six power units of the Zaporizhzhia NPP are controlled by the Russian occupiers, who are blocking the start-up of the plant. Therefore, instead of generating electricity, it consumes about 100 MW for its own needs from the energy system of Ukraine.
