The head of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Luigi Di Mayo said that Italy is ready to become one of the guarantors of Ukraine's neutral status , Interfax-Ukraine reports.

“The main priority for us is to continue the negotiation process. The actions taken by Turkey are commended. The results of the negotiations will be analyzed. Italy is ready to act as a guarantor of Ukraine's neutral status, “the Italian minister told reporters in Baku on Saturday.

According to him, as a result of sanctions against Russia, the issue of accelerating the expansion of the energy sector has arisen.

“In this context, Italy pays special attention to the development of cooperation with reliable partners with great potential, including Azerbaijan,” said the Italian Foreign Minister.

Di Mayo also added that “Italy, within the framework of the energy security plan, aims to distance itself from the Russian market.”

“To this end, Rome intends to step up its work towards the Mediterranean region,” he added.
