Borrell calls on the governments of EU member states not to stop supporting Ukraine

Russia can no longer compensate for losses in the war with Ukraine.

EU High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy < strong>Joseph Borrell calls on the governments of EU member states not to slow down the pace of military aid to Kyiv. He stated this during a question and answer session in the European Parliament on the topic “The current military situation in Ukraine”, reports DW.

Borrell is convinced that the sanctions introduced against the Russian Federation have already significantly affected its military capabilities.

“If you look inside Russian tanks that have been destroyed in Ukraine, you will see a significant number of electronic components of European high-tech companies. 45% of Russian technology depends on parts that came from Europe, now this import has stopped. Two-thirds of Russian civilian planes can no longer take off, because our sanctions prevent them from getting the spare parts they need,” the diplomat said.

He reminded about the data exchange mechanism created on the basis of the European External Action Service, which is used to coordinate Ukraine's requests, in particular, for the supply of weapons.

“We, together with the United States and other partners we are trying to fulfill these requests,” Borrell stressed.

He added that the counteroffensive launched by Ukraine turned out to be successful and showed good resultsb, but he emphasized that Vladimir Putin obviously < strong>seeks to weaken the support of Ukraine by the European Community by exacerbating the situation in the energy sector: scaring Europeans with a “severe winter” and “freezing of Europe”.

Joseph Borrell urged the EU countries not to act on Putin's energy blackmail and not to stop supporting Ukraine.

“I want to appeal to European citizens not to weaken support for Ukraine, but to continue it, so that this the conflict was resolved in favor of Ukraine in the interests of its territorial integrity,” he emphasized.

Earlier it was reported that the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba in a telephone conversation with the EU High Representative for Foreign Policy and Security Josep Borrell invited weapons, sanctions and financial aid from the EU.
