Barley stolen from Ukraine ended up in Lebanon – Ukraine demands an explanation

The Ukrainian embassy appealed to Lebanon to take measures to clarify the circumstances of the vessel's stay in the country's territorial waters.

The Embassy of Ukraine in Lebanon called on the authorities to clarify the conditions under which a Syrian ship carrying barley stolen in Ukraine was allowed to dock in Tripoli.

The Syrian vessel Laodicea, owned by the state-owned shipping company SYRIAMAR, was photographed passing through the Bosphorus Strait into the Mediterranean Sea on July 23.

Both the company and the vessel were sanctioned by the US Treasury Department in 2015.

“At a meeting with the President of Lebanon Michel Aoun on Thursday, Ambassador of Ukraine Ihor Ostash drew the attention of the President of the Republic to the fact that on July 27, 2022, a Syrian ship with barley exported from the occupied territories entered the sea port of Tripoli and was loaded in the port of Feodosia,” it is said. in a statement from the embassy posted on Facebook on Thursday.

The embassy appealed to the Lebanese authorities with with a request to take measures to find out the circumstances of the vessel's stay in Lebanese territorial waters, and also emphasized that this fact could harm bilateral relations.

Earlier it was reported that Russia tried to sell 27 thousand tons of stolen oil to Egypt grain in Ukraine. Cairo refused, so the ship had to change course to Lebanon and Syria.

According to the investigators, not only grain, but also sunflower is exported from the occupied territories by Russia.

Russia also steals not only agricultural machinery, but also grain from the occupied territories in industrial parties. Such cases are reported from temporarily occupied territories in Luhansk, Donetsk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions.
