A resolution calling on EU countries to support the decision has already been adopted.
A meeting of the European Council began in Brussels, which, is expected to grant Ukraine the expected candidate status for membership in the European Union. This was reported by Interfax-Ukraine.
The heads of state and government of the European Union, as well as the President of the European Council Charles Michel and the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen arrived in Brussels to work at the meeting.

The meeting was postponed for an hour after a two-hour meeting with the leaders of the Western Balkans.
At the beginning of the meeting, the participants exchanged views with the President of the European Parliament Robert Mezzola. After that, the EU leaders will begin consideration of Ukraine's, Moldova's and Georgia's applications for EU membership.

It should be noted that according to the draft decision of the leaders of the European Union , they will approve the recommendation of the European Commission to grant Ukraine and Moldova the status of a candidate for EU membership. At the same time, Georgia will be denied at the moment.
Earlier, the European Commission officially announced that it would recommend that the Union's leaders take a positive decision on Ukraine. At the same time, before starting negotiations on EU accession, Ukraine must fulfill a number of conditions .
