The President of Serbia, as expected, did not support the initiative to reform the Security Council due to dependence on Russia.
Due to the systematic violation of international law and thousands of war crimes committed by the Russian army in Ukraine, a number of world leaders made proposals to reform the UN Security Council. All of them provide either the exclusion of the Russian Federation from the organization, or the deprivation of the aggressor country's right of veto, which it regularly abuses. Serbia opposes this development, which believes that it will be a “catastrophe for the world order,” reports Novosti, quoting President Aleksandar Vučić.
The pro-Russian politician is sure that the West will definitely try to exclude Russia from the UN Security Council, but Belgrade will not support such a decision in any case. He reminded that according to Article 109 of the UN Charter, changes to it are approved by a two-thirds majority of the Organization's member states.
“Serbia will not vote for something like this – limiting the right of veto or excluding Russia. This will cause the destruction of the international order. God knows what they can do. This is unacceptable. It will be a disaster for us. Through Kosovo, of course,” said Vučić.
Let us remind you that from the very beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, Serbia, led by Vučić, was loyal to the aggressor country, not supporting EU sanctions and trying to preserve existing gas contracts with Gazprom.
