Vucic is going to “protect” the Serbs in Kosovo

The President of Serbia said that his country will save its citizens “from persecution and pogroms” in Kosovo if NATO does not do it.

President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic said that NATO forces must protect Serbs living in Kosovo from “persecution and pogroms”, otherwise Serbia will have to do it itself. The President's address was broadcast on Serbian TV channels on Sunday, August 21, the Associated Press reports.

According to Vučić, the Kosovo government wants to “finally expel the Serbian people from Kosovo” and is “only interested in eliminating any trace of the Serbian state” in the republic.

“We have nowhere to go, we are cornered, – said Oleksandr Vuchich. – We will save our people from persecution and pogroms if NATO does not want to do it.”He also stated the need to stop the infiltration of Kosovo Albanian “gangs” into northern Kosovo, where the majority of Kosovo Serbs live, without providing any evidence for this. Serbia, according to Vučić, will seek a “compromise solution” to the crisis in the next ten days, which arose in connection with the introduction in Kosovo of rules on the re-registration of cars from Serbia and temporary documents for Serbs entering the republic.

In the West, as the Associated Press writes, there are widespread fears that Russia could push Serbia to an armed intervention in northern Kosovo, which would further destabilize the Balkans and divert the attention of the world and NATO from Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
