Beijing is closely monitoring Washington's reaction to the Russian-Ukrainian war and is preparing to make a decision.
The American military will defend Taiwan in the event of an unprecedented an attack by China, US President Joe Biden said. Biden expressed this opinion on the air of the program “60 Minutes” on the CBS channel.
The correspondent asked a clarifying question whether this would mean that, unlike Ukraine, the US military would participate in the defense of Taiwan in the event of an invasion by China. To this, Biden briefly answered: “Yes”.
Deputy director of the CIA David Cohen believes that the PRC has not yet decided on a military invasion, but considers it necessary to create the preconditions for such scenario.
American intelligence believes that Chinese leader Xi Jinping is still interested in returning the island under control by non-military means. China is closely watching the US response to Russia's war in Ukraine, seeing it as a reflection of its plans for Taiwan.
