power plants This is extremely necessary for its work after the object completely lost connection with the external power supply line twice in the last week alone. This was stated by IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi, the organization's press service reports.

Backup external electricity, which will be able to flow through the distribution device of the thermal power plant, will create a buffer for the Zaporizhzhya NPP.

“Working in very difficult conditions, the staff of the ZNPP is doing everything possible to improve the fragile situation with external power supply. The restoration of the backup power source is a positive step in this regard, even though the overall nuclear safety situation remains unstable,” Grossi added.

The IAEA explained that before the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation and the occupation of the power plant by the Russians, it was supplied with energy through four high-voltage lines. Three of them were damaged by combat operations. In recent weeks, backup lines for indirect access to the network of the facility were also disconnected.
