The EU must first agree to such an option.
Ukraine will not agree to pay for the transit of Russian gas in rubles , said in an interview with “Economic Truth” Energy Minister Herman Galushchenko.
“We will not switch to rubles. This is impossible,” he said when asked about Ukraine's position on Russia's demand to pay for gas in rubles.
“It's difficult. These are not bilateral agreements. First, Europeans need to pay in rubles. It's all connected. It is impossible to pay in rubles here, but here to receive euros and dollars, “he added.
He added that Russia should stop gas transit in such a case.
“The Russians must then tell the Europeans: if you do not want to pay in rubles, then goodbye, we cut off gas supplies,” Galushchenko said, adding that Europe is unlikely to be ready for such a development.
It will be recalled that Russian President Vladimir Putin has decided that he can unilaterally change the terms of Gazprom's contracts and force Europeans to pay for gas in rubles.
He gave the Russian government and Gazprom a week to unilaterally amend previously concluded contracts.
Prior to the EU summit in Brussels, Slovenian Prime Minister Janez Jansa said that the European Union was not going to pay Russia for its gas in rubles. In turn, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that the agreement on the supply of energy from Russia referred to the calculation only in European and American currencies.
