Two Russian planes that violated Swedish airspace near Gotland on March 2 were equipped with nuclear weapons, TV4 Nyheterna reports. According to the Swedish TV channel, the violation was an intentional act to intimidate Sweden.

A formation of four planes took off from the Russian air base in Kaliningrad on March 2: two Su-24 attack aircraft accompanying two Su-27 fighters. Two of them, according to TV4 Nyheter sources, were equipped with nuclear weapons.

Due to the war in Ukraine, the Swedish Air Force increased its readiness and noticed in advance that Russian pilots were heading to Gotland.

The Swedish Armed Forces declined to comment on whether the attack aircraft were indeed equipped with nuclear weapons, but did not deny that the violation of airspace was intentional.

“It simply came to our notice then. This is very serious, especially because they are a warring country, “said Swedish Air Force Chief Carl-Johan Edström.

Violation of Swedish airspace in the territory lasted about a minute. The Air Force deployed two JAS 39 Gripen, which were able to meet and photograph the attackers. Then it was proved that Russian planes were equipped with nuclear weapons.

Earlier, the former Supreme Allied Commander Europe, Wesley Clark, said that the president of the aggressor country, Vladimir Putin may order the use of tactical nuclear weapons in Poland .

About the possibility that Russian President Vladimir Putin could launch a nuclear strike on Ukraine if his plan to take Kiev is not implemented, Hristo Grozev, an investigative journalist with Bellingcat, also said. At the same time, he reminded that in order to launch a nuclear-powered missile, five people must follow a certain sequence of actions.
