There will be no accelerated procedure: the European Commissioner from Hungary spoke about Ukraine's accession to the EU

According to the representative of Budapest, the Ukrainian authorities need at least several years to fulfill all the necessary conditions for joining the European Union.

Ukrainian authorities have repeatedly expressed their desire to accelerate the process of the country's accession to the European Union in all possible ways, but not all members of the European Commission believe in a quick scenario of European integration. Some of the commissioners believe that Ukraine will need at least one or two years to fulfill all the necessary conditions and become part of the European family. This opinion is held, in particular, by the representative of Hungary Oliver Vargei, writes the German publication Welt.

“In view of the large amount of work required to prepare to participation in the EU's internal market and many other important policy areas, the entire preparation for accession will most likely take more time than a year or two,” said Vargei.

He noted that Ukraine strives for the rapid advancement of reforms and acceleration of the work necessary for their implementation, but such initiative will not help to change the general conditions for accepting new members into the European Union.

“Ukraine seeks to speed up reforms and speed up the work necessary for this. This is positive. But not all seven reforms can be completed quickly. Therefore, the schedule for the start of negotiations cannot be determined. The same criteria apply to Ukraine as to all other applicants,” said Vargei.

It should be noted that earlier a number of domestic and foreign mass media expressed an opinion about the Hungarian commissioner's bias towards Ukraine. In their opinion, he will try in every possible way to slow down the process of European integration of our country, trying to please the Kremlin.
