Milli urged to be ready for Russia's reaction in response after the defeat in Kharkiv region.
On Sunday, high-ranking US General Mark Milley warned, that Russia may react to recent setbacks on the battlefield in Ukraine and called for increased vigilance among American troops. He said this during a trip to a base in Poland.
The speech of US Army General Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, was a reminder of the risks of escalation as the United States and its NATO allies help Ukraine to distances.
“The war is not going too well for Russia now. Therefore, we all have an obligation to maintain a high level of readiness,” Milley said in Warsaw after visiting the base, according to Reuters.
Millie's trip included an inspection of the base's air defenses, including Patriot missile batteries that were to become as a last line of defense if Russia decides to attack the base, risking war with NATO.
Millie said he does not believe U.S. forces in Europe are under any heightened threat, but said they must be ready.
“In a war, you just don't know with a high degree of certainty what's going to happen next.” Milley said the war had entered a new phase with Ukrainian forces seizing the strategic initiative, though he warned that the situation could again change “in weeks or months”.
“Because of that we have to watch very carefully what Russia's reaction to this will be.”
