The decision to invite Sweden and Finland to NATO was made during the Alliance summit in Madrid.
US President Joe Biden sent letters to Congress representatives about the readiness of Sweden and Finland to join NATO. This is reported by the press service of the White House.
“I am submitting a report on the accession of the Kingdom of Sweden to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, prepared in accordance with section 3(2)(E)(ii) of the Resolution on Recommendations and Consent for the Ratification of Protocols to North Atlantic Treaty. 1949 on the accession of Poland, Hungary and the Czech Republic on April 30, 1998,” the message reads.
A similar letter also applies to Finland.
“I am submitting a report on the accession of the Republic of Finland to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization prepared pursuant to Section 3(2)(E)(ii) of the Resolution on Recommendations and Consent to Ratify Protocols to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. 1949 on the accession of Poland, Hungary and the Czech Republic on April 30, 1998,” the letter states.

Earlier it was reported that NATO has officially started the process of accepting Sweden and Finland into the Alliance. The decision was supported by all 30 leaders.
Also, the leaders of Turkey, Sweden and Finland signed a memorandum based on the results of the negotiations held in Madrid, on the prospects of Helsinki and Stockholm joining the Alliance.
The leadership of NATO will sign the protocol on the admission of Sweden and Finland to the Alliance already on July 5.
