Patrushev says that Russia was allegedly forced to prevent the invasion.
Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Nikolai Patrushev voiced another “version” of Russia's invasion of Ukraine . He is convinced that the war was a “preventive” measure and should have thwarted the West's plans to establish a regime under its control in Russia. Patrushev stated this at a meeting of the Scientific Council under the Security Council of the Russian Federation, according to Russian media.
“The West seeks to create conditions for the establishment of a Western-controlled regime in Russia, as has already been done in Ukraine and a number of other countries. A special military operation thwarted these plans,” Patrushev said.
At the same time Patrushev did not explain how Ukraine threatened the existence of Russia.

Bloomberg, citing Putin's entourage, notes that the president of the aggressor country was determined to continue the war in Ukraine, despite the failure of the plan to quickly seize the country.
