The German Bundestag is calling for more weapons to be given to Ukraine and quickly

It is proposed to achieve this through an approach coordinated with partner countries and the German military industry.

Coalition representatives in the German Bundestag call for additional < strong>arms supplies to Ukraine, even if it can temporarily weaken the German army.

This is the opinion of MPs Christian Klink (SPD), Sarah Nanni (Union 90/Greens) and Alexander Müller (SVP ) expressed in the material for Spiegel.

Politicians concerned with security issues emphasized the importance of supporting Ukraine, which is fighting not only for its own freedom, but also for common European interests and values.

“Russia's aggressive war is a turning point, and it also requires an opening new ways to protect our goal – a world order based on rules, where the force of law governs, and not the law of the strongest,” the article says.

The authors are against a situational response to the current challenges and are in favor of a significant increase in the supply of weapons to Ukraine in the long term. Such support should include the training of the Ukrainian military, the supply of ammunition, technical support, etc.

“This is proposed to be achieved through an approach agreed with partner countries and the military industry: “New equipment for the Bundeswehr, for our allies and Ukraine should arrive quickly,” they explain.

Until now, the relatively small supply of German weapons was justified by the lack of equipment in the Bundeswehr. However, the deputies remind that the outcome of the Russian-Ukrainian war will have direct consequences for Europe, in particular, for Germany.

“Russia's victory will undermine European security. Moscow will not only bring its border closer to the EU. It would also show that it is possible to achieve political goals through an aggressive war in Europe. Thus, the defeat of Kyiv would mean even greater uncertainty, instability and the risk of escalation for Europe; at the same time, the success of Ukraine means greater security,” the politicians noted.

As a reminder, on August 19, Die Welt published an article in which it is stated that the German government has been ignoring Ukraine's requests for further arms supplies for several months. It was about the types of weapons that were already delivered before (Panzerhaubitze 2000 self-propelled guns and Mars II anti-aircraft guns), as well as about new tanks and armored vehicles.
