Anders Fogh Rasmussen did not rule out the possibility of a clash between NATO and the Russian Federation.

In particular, journalists asked the former Secretary General whether he sees the risk of a direct armed conflict between NATO and Russia in the next few months or years.

In his answer, Anders Fogh Rasmussen did not rule out the possibility of war between the Russian Federation and the Alliance.

“I wish I could answer with a clear “no.'' But after the Russian threats against Lithuania due to the issue of transit through this country, I must warn and state that if Russia touches Lithuanian shores, it will be a situation of the fifth article (of the NATO treaty, on collective defense – ed.), which will initiate a decisive military NATO's response. This is a conflict with Russia,” said the former Secretary General of the Alliance.
