Taiwan has restricted exports of high-tech goods to Belarus

The list of export control includes equipment for the production of semiconductors.

Government of Taiwan introduced control over technology exports to Belarus. According to Reuters, the restrictions prohibit Taiwanese companies from exporting a large list of technological products without obtaining a special permit.

Taiwan has extended to Belarus restrictions previously imposed on exports to Russia. The move is largely symbolic, given Taiwan's minimum level of direct trade with Belarus or Russia, according to Reuters.

However, in Taiwan, the public supports Ukraine, as many see the Russian invasion as a parallel to what could happen if China decides to forcibly establish control of the island, which Beijing considers its territory.

The list of export controls includes equipment for the production of semiconductors – an industry in which Taiwan is a world leader. The list also includes lasers and navigation systems. It is noted that the restrictions were introduced to prevent the use of technology for military purposes.

The Taiwanese Ministry of Economy said that this step was taken “in view of the active participation of Belarus in Russia's invasion of Ukraine.”

Earlier, Taiwanese Foreign Minister Joseph Wu said that Taiwan can learn from Ukraine self-defense in case China will attack the island.

Wu pointed to the Ukrainians' defense strategy as a potential model for the island nation, comparing Taiwan-China relations with Ukraine-Russia relations .
