Symbols related to Russia's aggression have been officially banned in Latvia

The law also prohibits the promotion of events containing the ideology of the Nazi and communist regimes.

The Latvian Parliament has supported an amendment to a law banning the use of symbols glorifying military aggression or war crimes. Now in Latvia the public demonstration of symbols “Z” and “V” connected with aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine is officially forbidden, the press service of the Seimas of Latvia reports.

In addition, the law prohibits the propaganda and glorification of events containing the ideology of the Nazi and Communist regimes during public events (birthdays commemorating these ideologies, battles and victories, celebrating the occupation of free and independent territories and their parts).

The Latvian Parliament also increases the fine in case of violation of the rules of holding or organizing public events. For an individual, the fine can be 400 euros, for a legal entity – 3,200 euros.

Earlier, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmitry Kuleba called on the world to introduce criminal liability for the use of the symbol “Z”.

It was also reported that in Germany, persons using the symbol of the Russian occupiers “Z” will be fined .
