Since the start of the war in Ukraine, India has bought twice as much oil from Russia as in a year

India is the world's third largest oil consumer.

Indian refineries bought two months of war in Ukraine at a discount Russian oil, which other buyers tried to avoid. This was reported by Reuters.

In total, since February 24, India has placed an order for at least 40 million barrels of Russian oil. The oil is due to be shipped in June. Reuters points out that Russia has exported only 16 million barrels to Indian customers in 2021. India is the world's third largest oil consumer. It needs about 5 million barrels a day.

Thus, the country's refineries are trying to offset cheaper supplies of cheaper Russian oil from other exporters, such as Saudi Arabia.
