Russia has not returned the planes to foreign leasing companies. What will happen to them?

The planes will not be able to fly abroad, and some of them will have to be disassembled for spare parts.

Россия так и не вернула самолеты иностранным лизинговым компаниям. Что с ними будет?

As of yesterday, March 28, European companies have lost the ability to provide, insure and repair Russian airlines due to EU sanctions. At the same time, Russia passed laws that effectively stole about 500 leased aircraft. Yesterday, the deadline expired when Russia had to return the planes. The Russian service of the BBC writes about this.

There are no winners in this story. These planes cannot fly to other countries, otherwise they will be arrested and handed over to the lessor. Accordingly, they will be used only in Russia. The issue with spare parts is also unresolved. Most likely, the planes will be repaired at the expense of making one of the 2 planes.

At the same time, it seems that the Russian Federation was trying to buy planes from lessors. “We are looking for legal ways to negotiate with lessors and resolve this issue, but so far it is not possible … They do not want to enter into negotiations to compensate for the payment and purchase of ships owned by Russian airlines … But nevertheless, we do not lose hope , but we do not give. Because to give means to leave oneself without aviation “, – the Minister of Transport of Russia Vitaly Savelyev declared.

The global aviation industry has also suffered its losses. Leasing companies lost planes and money. Insurance companies that have insured transactions will have to pay huge insurance payments. Both are waiting for the courts for more than one year for these payments.
