In the coming weeks, Russia and the USA plan to meet to to discuss the resumption of inspections of nuclear weapons facilities in accordance with the New Strategic Offensive Weapons Treaty (SNO). These negotiations were suspended after the Russian invasion of Ukraine. This is reported by Bloomberg.
A State Department official confirmed that a meeting of the Bilateral Advisory Commission is being prepared, but declined to say when or where it would take place. It is only known that it will not take place in Geneva, as usual, because Switzerland joined the sanctions against Russia due to its invasion.
The press secretary noted that the USA hopes for a constructive meeting.
Two sources in Moscow, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Cairo is a possible venue for such a meeting.

In August, Russia barred US inspectors from visiting its nuclear weapons sites, citing visa and travel restrictions on Russians that it said prevented them from reaching the US. The two countries suspended on-site inspections in March 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic and have since been in talks to safely resume them.
White House press secretary Karin Jean-Pierre on Monday confirmed that the US had high-level contacts with Russia, but declined to comment on reports that national security adviser Jake Sullivan recently held secret talks with aides to President Vladimir Putin in an effort to halt the move toward nuclear escalation.
“We reserve the right to speak directly at the highest level on issues of concern to the United States. This has happened over the past few months. Our conversations were focused only on reducing risks in US-Russian relations,” said Jean-Pierre.

In 2021, Putin and the administration of President Joe Biden extended the new SNO treaty for five years, giving the former rivals time of the Cold War, it is time for new negotiations on strategic security. Putin's attack on Ukraine in February sparked a new round of confrontation.
