Rectors of Ukrainian universities propose to reduce the number of universities in the country. The rector of the Pedagogical University named after Sergei Shkarlet wrote in an open letter to the Minister of Education and Science Grinchenko Victor Ognevyuk.

The Union of Rectors has even set up a working group to work on this and drafted a bill on ensuring the competitiveness of Ukrainian universities. They are confident that this will help ensure the high quality of Ukrainian higher education and its maximum inclusion in the reconstruction of Ukraine destroyed by the Russian invaders.

According to the union of rectors, it is necessary to reduce the number of institutions of higher education of state and municipal ownership from 300 to 112 – 115 (excluding private). This will contribute to the concentration of human, financial and material resources to improve the quality of training in Ukraine.

At the same time, it is important to preserve and ensure the development of higher education institutions with a city-forming function. For example, in such cities as Glukhov, Drohobych, Kamenets-Podolsky, Nezhin, Pereyaslav, Izmail.

“A significant number of university rectors and vice-rectors, as well as administrative staff, in contrast to scientific, scientific-pedagogical and pedagogical workers, will lose their positions. “, – says Ognevyuk.

He also notes that he tried to discuss the proposal with the Minister of Education over the phone, but he did not listen to the proposal of the Union of Rectors. For this reason, an open letter was published.

We will remind, Rada canceled VNO and GIA for graduates of 2022. The introductory campaign is planned to be conducted on the basis of a single multi-subject test.
