President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin commented for the first time explosion on the Crimean Bridge. Despite the fact that the explosion occurred in the morning of October 8, Putin's comment appeared only in the evening of the 9th. The leader of the aggressor state expectedly accused Ukraine of the “terrorist attack”.
“This is a terrorist attack aimed at destroying the critically important civil infrastructure of the Russian Federation. The authors, executors, customers are the special services of Ukraine,” Putin said at a meeting with the head of the Investigative Committee Aleksandr Bastrykin.
Bastrykin reported to Putin that Russian citizens and foreign countries. The investigator of the Russian Federation opened a case under Article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation – “Terrorist Act”.
“Many witnesses and eyewitnesses have been questioned, special expert investigations have been started and largely completed – these are explosive, genetic, and forensic examinations. (…) Relevant orders to conduct investigative activities were given to the bodies of the FSB and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia,” Bastrykin added.
The version about the deliberate undermining of the bridge remains one of the key ones. Military analyst Agil Rustamzadeh believes that it could have been carried out by a suicide driver whose truck was carrying more than two thousand tons of explosives. Rustamzade came to these conclusions after analyzing photos and videos from the scene of the explosion.
“I despise suicide bombers who blow themselves up and take the lives of innocent people with them. But this self-detonation is real heroism,” Rustamzade emphasized.
Ukraine does not comment on involvement in the explosion. However, earlier officials allowed strikes on the bridge across the Kerch Strait. Ukraine considers Russian infrastructure in occupied Crimea a legitimate military target.
