Pentagon working to speed up arms sales to allies to beat China – WSJ

The US is extremely concerned that the slow process of supplying weapons to allies may shake their confidence in the expediency of future cooperation.

Aggravation of relations between China and Taiwan, as well as Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, forced the United States to reconsider its own policy regarding the supply of weapons to allies. The Pentagon is working to speed up arms sales abroad to compete with China. This was reported by The Wall Street Journal.

According to the source, the process of reviewing the sales policy weapons from the US began in the Pentagon about a month ago and involves accelerating the implementation of agreements with foreign allies in order to better compete with China and replenish the arsenals of friendly countries that have provided military equipment to Ukraine.

To do this, the Pentagon created a special group of high-ranking officials to study the long-term ineffectiveness of US arms sales to foreign countries worth billions of dollars. The so-called “tiger team” will look for ways for the Ministry of Defense to optimize part of the program to deliver US drones, guns, helicopters, tanks and other weapons to partners in the shortest possible time.

According to the WSJ, the political and military elite of the United States are extremely concerned that the slow process of supplying weapons to allies may shake their confidence in the expediency of future cooperation.

“Such a slow pace may sow uncertainty among some countries as to whether the United States really needs them as partners. And this is the risk of sending them to buy weapons in other places. Officials in Washington say they must deepen their relationship in the face of global competition with China, which is often determined by who can sell the best, most advanced military equipment the fastest and at the cheapest price.
