Only one country refused to condemn the actions of the Russian Federation for the annexation of the territory of Ukraine at the UN

The name of this country is obvious.

Russia vetoed the UN Security Council resolution, which condemns its annexation of four Ukrainian regionsafter the so-called “accession referendums”

Ukraine and none of the Western countries have neither recognized the legitimacy of their holding nor results.

The resolution condemned “Russia's organization of illegal so-called referendums in regions located within the internationally recognized borders of Ukraine” and emphasized that these “expressions of will” do not have any legal consequences.< /p>

The resolution also called on Russia to “immediately, completely and unconditionally withdraw all its military forces from the territory of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders”.

Fully expected, Russia became the only country that spoke against the resolution, saying that the “vast majority” of residents of these regions spoke in favor of joining the Russian Federation.

Ten countries voted “for”: Albania, France, Ghana, Ireland, Kenya, Mexico, Norway, the United Arab Emirates, Great Britain and the USA .

Four countries abstained:Brazil, China, Gabon and India.

Speaking before the vote, US Ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield, who co-sponsored the resolution with her Albanian counterpart, said she agreed with the goals of the Security Council regarding the protection of sovereignty, the protection of territorial integrity and the provision of peace and security.

“We are talking about a UN member state, a member of the Security Council, which is trying to annex part of another by force. The results of these fake referendums were predetermined in Moscow, and everyone knows it. They were received under the muzzles of Russian machine guns,” said Thomas-Greenfield.

Late yesterday, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed decrees recognizing the alleged “independence” of Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions from Ukraine.

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres said that Putin's recognition of the independence of the occupied Ukrainian territories is a gross violation of the principles of the UN Charter and international law.
