Norway has information that leaks on Nord Stream could be the result of “acts of sabotage”

The Minister of Energy emphasized that the investigation is ongoing.

Minister of Oil and Energy of Norway Ter Asland said on Tuesday that preliminary information about leaks from the Nord Stream gas pipeline indicated acts of sabotage. This is stated in a message on the website of the country's government.

“Based on the information we have seen so far, many points to acts of sabotage,” Asland told reporters on Tuesday, commenting on gas leaks in pipelines Nord Stream-1 and Nord Stream-2 near the Danish island of Bornholm in the Baltic Sea, reports CNN.

At the same time, the cause of the leak has not been officially confirmed, European authorities continue to investigate the incident.

Asland added that today the Norwegian government has decided to increase emergency preparedness for the infrastructure of land and sea installations on the Norwegian continental shelf.

“There was close contact between the Norwegian government, the police, the Norwegian Armed Forces and operators on the Norwegian continental shelf. On this basis, the government has decided to take measures to improve emergency preparedness for the infrastructure of onshore and offshore installations on the Norwegian continental shelf. Part of the backstory is reports of increased drone activity. “The investigation is ongoing,” he said.
